Truth & Truthiness

Last week our conversation focused on news and how we stay informed. In that discussion we touched on the question “How do we know what is reliable?”

In a political environment that serves up “alternative facts,” how do you determine what is real? In a world full of wildly divergent views, how do we determine what is credible? When marketing is forever trying to get our attention, where do we find the truth?

The 19th and 20th centuries put an emphasis on science and logic – and there were unprecedented advances in knowledge and technology. But there have been drastic and oppressive consequences as well.

It would appear the world has tired of an all-out commitment to logic. We long for heart. Stephen Colbert used the following satirical sketch to highlight this dynamic: Colbert introduces “Truthiness.”

Our workplaces are like a test lab for recent popular ideas. How are we to negotiate and engage with people in that popular culture when we also hold to a God who has convincingly revealed that He is real and present? Join us to share your challenges and solutions.
